AUTHOR OF THE MONTH:  This month we will be reading books by Tomie dePaola.  Tomie was born September 15, 1934 and currently resides in New Hampshire.  He has written and illustrated over 250 books.  He is best known for his character "Strega Nona" which means "Grandma Witch" in Italian.  Strega Nona is a wise, loving, and gentle woman who has magical powers.  He also has written many books based on his ethic heritage of Irish/Italian. Tomie has several books based on "legends" like Legend of the Pointsetta, and Legend of the Indian Paintbrush.  He will always sign his name with a heart in the "T" part of Tomie because he says it shows love.  To find out more about Tomie dePaola visit his website at www.tomie.com
